Aguas Arts Ink is honored to present three productions for the 2nd annual 1455 Summer Literary Festival: 'Coming Out Asian American' by Jonathan Hsu, 'The Untethered: Black Voices from Virginia,' and 'Drinking With Dad' by Alexis Camins. The festival takes place July 16th-18th and features a variety of panels and shows.

Hsu’s solo show receives an ensemble production directed by Francis Tanglao Aguas. From vampires to Bruce Lee to competitive swimming, Hsu explores the complications of Asian America male identity in this poetic monodrama rooted in critical race and gender discourse.

THE UNTETHERED

Curated by Francis Tanglao Aguas, this is a collection of spoken word and monodrama from Black writers and actors from Virginia. The piece explores the diverse experiences of African American theatre artists in their quest to carve out their own space in the creative landscape of the American South.

ALEXIS CAMINS

In the tradition of the memory play, Camins pens a fantasy meeting between an estranged father and son. Set in the Philippines, “Drinking With Dad” excavates the pathos of abandonment to ask if such relationships can be rebuilt. Directed by Francis Tanglao Aguas.
